Vienna, Austria — Music lovers in the Austrian capital are set for an elegant cultural evening as the Philippine Embassy in Vienna presents a special piano recital in celebration of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Austria.
Titled “Celebrating the Romantic Era: A Piano Recital by Raul Sunico,” the event will take place on 30 April 2026 at 19:00, with doors opening at 18:30, at the renowned ORF Radiokulturhaus Großer Sendesaal in Vienna’s 4th district.
The recital will feature a curated program highlighting the expressive richness of the Romantic period, bringing together works by both European masters and Filipino composers. The evening aims to underscore the shared cultural appreciation between the two nations while offering audiences an immersive musical experience.
Admission to the concert is free, though attendees are required to register in advance due to limited seating. Organizers note that registration will close once capacity is reached.

At the center of the evening is Filipino pianist Raul M. Sunico, a globally recognized virtuoso with an extensive academic and performance background. Dr. Sunico completed multiple degrees at the University of the Philippines, including music and mathematics, before furthering his studies at the prestigious Juilliard School and New York University, where he earned his doctorate in piano performance.
His illustrious career includes numerous international accolades, beginning with a silver medal at the Viotti International Piano Competition in Italy in 1979. He later received the Henry Cowell Prize at the University of Maryland International Piano Competition and has since been honored with high distinctions such as the Philippine Presidential Order of Merit and Italy’s Commendatore Award.
Beyond performance, Sunico has contributed significantly to the global music community as a juror in international competitions across Europe, Asia, and the United States, further cementing his reputation as both an artist and educator.
